Husqvarna Robot Coming to a Lawn Near You

husqvarna automower lawn mower robot
This ain't exactly about chainsaws but it's close enough - Husqvarna, fine purveyors of chainsaws around the world, has up and made a lawn mower robot called the "Automower". This here doohickie will keep you grass mowed real nice and is powered from the sun. Pretty nifty I suppose, but I still like getting on the back of my John Deere. But I guess if some one were so inclined as to buy me one of these gadgets I'd be inclined to use it. To get her going, you simply lay some wire around your yard so the thing knows it's boundaries and then you just turn it on - the sun keeps it full of juice and your lawn nice and smooth. I'm sure it won't be long before Snapper, Toro and Honda are also making some sort of automatic lawnmower for the masses.

This Ain't No Way to Remove a Tree From Your Backyard

Ain't this some funny sh*t? I reckon them boys were drunk - it seems pretty obvious to me that that tree was going to fall on that truck. What a bunch of idiots, they're pretty lucky nobody got hurt but that sad little pickup.

Thanks to ettf.net for pointing us to this funny video.

Hot Doggie! The Stihl 280 Chainsaw is Better Than Wrestling

Hey there sawdust lovers - I gotta tell you that I surely do love my Stihl MS 280, maybe even more than the WCW. This baby rocks! She's durable as all get out and she's so garshdon manageable that you barely even notice her seductive kickback. She's also lean and mean weighing in at just under a dozen pounds. My bud Kevin Kelly also reckons this a here chainsaw can tear up some wood-
I've used three or four other brands of chainsaws but when a 50-foot-tall, 34-inch-diameter walnut tree fell on my barn, I decided I needed a better chainsaw than I could get at Sears. A brand new Stihl model 280 with a 20-inch bar cost $420 USD at my local store and I don't regret one penny.
Some say that it's no longer available in the U.S., can anyone confirm or deny such rumors? I reckon their false seeing as how Popular Mechanics reviewed a different version of the Stihl 280 this summer. Anybody else out there in the woods got one of these? Ho do you like yours?

Another Funny Chainsaw Commercial - This Time By Nike

The commercial below is pretty similar in theme to that Stihl Chainsaw commercial I posted yesterday. This one was banned for some reason but I couldn't reckon why, seems pretty tame to me, but then, I like chainsaws. Did a little diggin' around and it looks like the woman in the video is a track star named Suzy Hamilton and the video got booted off the boob box 'cause "critics said [it] glorified violence against women." Whatever.

Three Kinds of Sawmills - One of Them Be Right For Ya'

Usually I don't go for none of that hippie nonsense but this week Mother Earth News come up with a piece on sawmills that I couldn't see rightly ignoring. This detailed article on sawmills breaks down the good, the bad and the ugly of the 3 major differences between portable sawmills, those being: chainsaw mills, circular sawmills and band sawmills. Below I'll give you a quick run-through on the three of them, given that a four page article is a lot to read-

chain saw mills

Chainsaw Mills
Pros: these suckers are cheap and relatively easy to move
Cons: slow, wasteful and the cuts are rough which means the wood still needs to be finished
Examples: Total J100 and the Alaskan Mark III

circular sawmills

Circular Sawmills
Pros: these suckers are fast
Cons: pricey, wasteful, hard to operate and relatively rough cuts
Examples: Mighty Mite "D" and Lucas Mill

band sawmills

Band Sawmills
Pros: these suckers are portable, safe, less wasteful, affordable and smoother cuts
Cons: not much

So, according to the good people at Mother Earth News, it seems that the band sawmills are the way to go. Me, I just like my good ole' Stihl 280 and a nice piece of tree.

Funny Stihl Chainsaw Horror Movie Commercial

I loves me a funny commercial and when it happens to be for chainsaws, well, I gets me a little tingle.  Stihl Power Tools has an awesome commercial for their Easy2Start system that's a take off on them Jason movies from the 80's.  In this version of Friday the 13th Jason needs himself an upgrade on his current chain saw of choice.  I ain't never seen this commercial on tv and it runs over a minute, so I'm not sure if it ever actually aired, but it do make a saw lover laugh.
